“I love cats ! “says Christian, the tender and truculent “daddy” of Katyusha and Marmalade. Almost all is said. Lasse Linder’s camera is never far from the three protagonists, a human and two felines. Whether in complete darkness and silence or in broad daylight to the sound of disco music, Christian carries them around, touches them, talks to them, moves them. The cats become doors to his inner self, rather than to the outside world, which is nevertheless there, which these three nonetheless inhabit. With a penchant for the absurd, punctuated by more existential and melancholic nuances, this film proposes us to go beyond the cliché of the “cat lady”, and perhaps a few others about a certain idea of masculinity.
